Snells beach house

Our inner-city clients fell in love with a site in Snells Beach and decided to trade their apartment for a new-build dream home.

Designing the home, to maximise the expansive sea views - the kitchen, living, dining and master bedroom are all on the street entrance level, while the natural curvature of the land was cut into, to create dual levels. The lower level houses two extra guest bedrooms and bathrooms, opening into an outdoor seating area and lawn.

With the desire to have a low maintenance home, the decision was made to clad the exterior in a striking ABODO Vulcan Charred Cladding, inspired by the traditional Japanese timber preservation process of yakisugi or shou sugi ban, Vulcan Charred is a richly textured timber cladding with a unique and highly textured black aesthetic and requires almost zero upkeep. White bagged brick juxtaposed the charred cladding to create an impactful street presence.

Our clients are now fully moved in and embracing their new slow coastal lifestyle.

Project Scope - concept design, developed design, resource consent, building consent, on-site monitoring.
